Commonly called an IP PIN, is a 6 digit number mailed to you by the IRS to verify your identity when filing a tax return. Once you are enrolled, the IRS issues you a IPIN each year and your tax return cant be filed without it.
Without the correct 6 digit IPPIN, a criminal who has your social security number cannot successfully file a tax return using your identity.
